The brooch is fragmentary, represented by the leg only (with a surviving length of 32.9mm, a surviving depth of 10.2mm and a weight of 4.0g). The leg is now slightly distorted and is of rectangular section at the break (3.8mjm wide and 2.7mm thick) with no decoration evident on the front. The sides of the leg are straight and convergent to the pointed foot. The catch-plate is as wide as the leg and arcs from beneath the break. Copper alloy bridle fitting of uncertain date, probably Late Iron Age to Early Roman, possibly 1st or 2nd century AD
The fitting is probably a bridle link from either a two or three-link bridle bit and is near complete but is heavily worn and corroded (with a surviving length of 60.4m m and a weight of 28.7g). The bridle fitting comprises two loops at a perpendicular axis to each other, positioned each end of the bar. The smaller loop was near circular (with a width of 14.4mm and internal diameter of 6.4mm) but is now eroded and open at the rear, probably through wear. There are th…

An associated group of three silver Roman Republican denarii:
1. C. Licinius L.F. Macer, Rome c.84 BC; Crawford 354/1; 2.51g, worn and corroded
2. L. Mussidius Longus, Rome c.41 BC; Crawford 494/42; 2.09g, worn and corroded
3. uncertain Republican moneyer; 2.91g worn and corroded.
Silver coins of the Roman Republic formed a significant part of Roman currency until the beginning of the second century A.D. until withdrawn under the emperor Trajan (98-117). From their worn state, it would appear that these coins formed a small sum, lost at some point in the first century A.D.…

The plate brooch is of lozenge form, without lugs and is missing the pin and decorative panel (with a length of 38.2mm, a width of 27.2mm and a weight of 7.4g). The missing pin was hinged between twin D-shaped lugs, positioned adjacent to the apex of the rear. The catch-plate remains in place near the base of the rear (giving the brooch a depth of 8.7mm). The rear is slightly convex across its width. The front of the brooch has a raised border (1.9mm from the edge and 0.8mm high), i…

Roman copper alloy bow brooch of Hod Hill type and of 1st century AD date
The brooch is incomplete, missing the pin and leg (with a surviving length of 36.3mm, a depth of 11.6mm and a weight of 6.2g). The hinged spring was secured within a rolled head (15.2mm wide). There is iron corrosion within the rolled head, suggestion the axis bar was iron. The sides of the bow converge beneath the head and the bow is parallel sided (at 10.1mm) to the mid-bow. The upper bow is decorated with two horizontal ribs (giving a thickness of 3.0mm). The mid-bow is expanded and has two side lugs (giving …
