Object type: INGOT
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Newport
Workflow stage: Published
Cast lead ingot, probably of Roman date because of recent evidence of Roman metalworking in the area. The ingot is circular and is irregular bowl shaped. It was likely to have been cast on a slope, as one side is notably deeper than the other. The ingot has an incised cross on the top surface. The sides and bottom of the ingot are comparatively smooth, possibly suggesting the ingot was cast into a clay mould or similar.
