Copper alloy Roman brooch of trumpet derivative type, first century-second century AD, worn fragment lacking its foot. In middle of the bow is a flat, rectangular plate divided into panels; wear makes interpretation difficult but there appear to have been two central rectangular recesses and two transverse panels. There may have been further panels flanking those in the centre. These panels may have born champleve enamel inlay. The head is expanded to to form a weak variant of the eponymous trumpet. Beneath this is a slot with across which is a transverse bar by which the pin would have been secured. Length 33.7mm, Width 10.5m, Height 8.4mm, Mass 3.98g.
