Unidentified object, c. AD 50-1950, this object may have been a bracelet but no parallels have been found and it could be a recent machine part. The object consists of a ring, now distorted by but with an original diameter of about 53mm. For most of its circumference the ring has a 3.2mm diameter, circular section but at two opposed points it is expanded to form 6.7 x 4.2mm plates, the wider face being in the plane of the ring. Through each of these plates is a centrally placed, 1.5mm diameter hole, drilled at 90 degrees to the plane of the ring. Length (crushed) 67.3mm, Width (crushe…

Fragment of cast copper alloy, leaf shaped and bearing deeply incised lines. These from a central groove across which are three, curved, transverse grooves. The object has a flattened D shaped section. At one end is a rounded finial, separated from the main part of the object by a transverse groove. At the other end of the object is what might be a highly stylised animal's head, a diamond shaped area with a ce…

Sheet copper alloy strip, tapering slightly along its length, decorated with a pattern of small repouse bosses, the design consists of a central line of bosses flanked by bosses making up triangles While the two fragment do not joint it is likely that they formed part of the same strip. The broader end of the strip is, transversly, slightly curved. This object is clearly of some antiquity but its date and function are unknown. Patterns of raised bosses are used on Roman votive plates but also appear on Early Anglo-Saxon bucket mounts. Associations on the site suggest a Roman date. Len…

Cast copper alloy finial, end shaped like an acorn separated from an oval sectioned fitting by a deep groove the faces of which bear incised lines radiating from the centre. Within the groove is a transverse disc, the edge of which bears a circumferential groove. Around the base of the 'acorn' is a raised band bearing massed, longitudinal, incised lines. Through the oval sectioned fitting is a 2.3mm wide slot which contains iron corrosion products. The decoration on this object suggests a Roman date although its function is uncertain although it may have been part of a piece of sur…
