Roman brooch of 'trumpet' type, first-second century. Cast copper alloy, foot missing, The bow has a D shaped section with multiple mouldings around its mid point. These consist of a central, semi-circular, transverse disc, flanked, on each side, by three conical projections. beyond these are broad, transverse grooves and two incised lines. The bow expands to form the eponymous 'trumpet' on the underside of which is an integarally cast loop by which the spring was attached. Length 34mm, Width 12.6mm, Height (crushed 8.4mm, Mass 3.65g.
