Object type: BROOCH
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Published
A fragmentary miniature thistle-type brooch made of mercury gilt silver. The bow is P-shaped in profile and it has finely decorated applied incuse linear decoration on the wings. There is an expanded foot and a circular feature in the centre of the bow. It has a silver content of over 98%. This is a very small example, and as such would have served a decorative rather than a functional purpose.
