A complete Roman gilded copper-alloy disc brooch, probably of about AD 200-350.
The brooch is circular in plan, measuring 26mm in diameter, with a central boss made of a dark gemlike material. The boss is conical and measures 5mm in diameter and 9mm in height. The base of the boss is raised 1.8mm above the surrounding surface, giving a total thickness of 19mm for the entire object. A slightly raised rim forms the outer circumference of the brooch and enough gilding survives to recognise a repetitive pattern of "S" shapes just inside this edge. A nummus of Constans (AD337-350) minted in Trier between AD 347 and 348 (RIC vol VIII pg 152 no. 195). Flavius Iulius Constans Augustus was the younger brother of Constantine II, and the two ended up eventually going to war, with Constans emerging victorious. He would later himself be killed by his own troops in AD 350.

A nummus issued AD 321-322 in London under the authority of Constantine II as Caesar (RIC VII, 112, 236 var). Flavius Claudius Constantinus Augustus was the oldest of Constantine's surviving sons but was killed outside Aquilea during the Constantinian family's civil war.
The coin is very dark and suffers from wear to the reverse, though the type is still clearly identifiable.

A copper alloy stylus or stylus-like object with an even coating of verdigris. The main shaft of the object varies in cross section along its length from a mostly circular shape, through quadrilateral, to a flattened and more chisel like profile. The whole object is about 45 mm long and begins to curve at about the 27 mm point. This object may have been mounted into a handle or fitted into another, larger holding device for mark making in wax.
