Fragment of a probable copper alloy Roman plate brooch, inlaid with enamel, dating to the 2nd century AD (100-200AD). The object is oval in plan and slightly convex on the outer face. There is a break at the top and bottom of the object.  This suggests that the object could be a large roundel from the centre of a brooch bow.  It is decorated on the outer face with a series of concentric circular cells, the largest of which contains blue enamel or glass. The inner circles appear to contain degraded enamel or glass, which is a rusty brown colour. The reverse is plain.  …

An incomplete Roman copper alloy Colchester derivative Polden Hill brooch (Mackreth 2011, 4l, Oddments No. 2059, Plate 48) dating c120-240AD. In plan the brooch is almost T shape.  The wings are circular in section with a slight raised stop-ridge at either end.  The upper part of the bow is decorated with a two semi-circles cells (to create a circular motif) filled with white enamel.  The rest of the bow is pitted but appears to have traces of moulded decoration.  The pin is incomplete and the catchplate and foot are missing. An incomplete copper alloy key handle of Roman date, c. 150-410AD. The handle would have been trilobed, in the form of a fleur-de-lys and openwork, with teardrop-shaped openings, which taper into the base. Only the central lobe survives. The base of the handle comprises a rectangular transverse collar decorated with moulded ridges. This base contains a socket which would have held an iron shank but is now missing.  The object has a pale green patina.
