A complete cast lead-alloy miniature or votive axe of probable Roman date, c. 43-410 AD. The axe mimics the form of Roman 'shaft hole' axes, being broadly triangular in plan and section with a slightly drooping blade (possibly a manufacturing error). Broad period: ROMAN
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete cast lead-alloy weight of possible Roman to Medieval date, c. 43-1500 AD. The weight is conical and fairly squat, with a flat base that tapers inwards to a pointed top where there is a narrow slit, presumable originally where an iron loop or similar would have projected from (though this is now missing). Preserved in fair condition with an even whitish patina, it stands 23.98mm high and measures 31.06mm in diameter at its base. It weighs 128.58g.
