A complete gold object of uncertain date, but possibly Iron Age or early Roman. It consists a length of thick gold wire (now rather twisted and distorted) of circular section with a knopped globular terminal at each end. Identification is uncertain, although it is likely to be an item of personal adornment such as a bracelet. The original length/diameter of the object is uncertain due to heavy distortion but has been estimated at 130mm; the terminals are c. 2.66mm in diameter and the midpoint of the wire 1.42mm thick. Description: A complete but squashed gold finger ring of earlier Roman date. The 'D' sectioned hoop is somewhat slender and has been (deliberately?) broken at its base, the two ends subsequently folded in on each other. The shoulders are plain, expanding into an oval bezel at their apex. The latter is decorated with the faint incised design of a palm frond, but is otherwise plain. Date: c. 43-200 AD Dimensions: The ring in its current folded state of preservation measures c. 11.61mm in diameter, c. 1.25mm thick at each shoulder, while the bezel is c. 6.47mm long by 4.51mm wide.…
