Fragment of a copper-alloy, openwork, cast Roman mount of the 'trompetenmuster' style. The style dates to the second and third centuries AD, and is a common feature in Roman metalwork. The mount would have likely been rectangular in plan, when complete, with four adjoining trumpet motifs. What survives of the reverse has a single lug, otherwise it is plain. There are some almost complete examples of this type of mount on the PAS database: WILT-9EB5E6 and BM-B75D68. See Von Jenny, W.A. An incomplete, copper alloy, Roman, plate brooch, AD.150-300. The brooch comprises a circular disc with a slightly raised border around the edge. There is a sexfoil pattern on the front of the brooch within the border. This pattern is formed by six small pellets connected by concave boder in relief. This surrounds a central circle in relief. The space between the edge border and the inner sexfoil contains the remains of red enamel. Wihtin the inner border are the remains of blue enamel.
