Fragment of a copper-alloy, openwork, cast Roman mount of the 'trompetenmuster' style. The style dates to the second and third centuries AD, and is a common feature in Roman metalwork. A fragment of a copper alloy, Roman, trumpet brooch, AD.75-175. The object comprises the head of the brooch, formed of the bell of the trumpet. There is a small flange that runs around the head. There are two ovoid recesses upon either side of the head. The head tapers back into the bow but has been broken in antiquity with a worn straight break. The loop for the pin remains on the underside of the head. The bow, catchplate and pin are all missing making refined classification difficult, examples of trumpet brooches similar to this can be found in Mackreth 2011, pl.79-82.
