An incomplete, copper alloy, Roman, brooch, Trumpet type, missing pin but otherwise complete. The object comprises the head, spring, bow, foot and catchplate of the brooch. The head is oval in shape and concave on the underside to accomodate the spring, it tapers sharply up into the bow which arches backwards. At the apex of the bow the smooth curve is broken by a central decorative element, this consists of a collar, with a deep recess followed by a wide collar of triangular spikes. An incomplete, copper alloy, Roman bow brooch, Colchester derivative, double pierced lug, Harlow type, AD.40-100. The object comprises, the head, bow and catch plate of the brooch. The spring and pin have been lost. The head of the brooch is quite corroded but preserves the loop on the head for the spring and the wings. Running from the head down the bow is a ridge decorated with an incised zig-zag. On either side of the ridge is a concave gully that runs down the length of the bow.
