A Roman ceramic sherd from a Samian ware vessel dating to the period c AD 43-260.  The sherd comprises a fragment from the side or body of the vessel vessel. The sherd is undecorated with very rare small limestone inclusions. The fabric is fine and orange in colour with a glossy orange-red slip on the outside (on both the inside and outside of the vessel), although it is worn chipped. The vessel was wheel thrown as attested by its even surface and concentric Measurements: 25.77mm wide, 22.69mm high, 0.72mm thick, 3.49g in weight

A fairly large decorated wheel thrown body ceramic sherd with some recent breaks possibly of Upchurch Black ware or similar upchurch ware dating from the late first century to second century AD. Description: The fragment is roughly shaped and heavily worn, it is unoxidised with specks of sandy inclusions throughout with some mica speckling. There is a double band of incised decoration at one end of the sherd. It has a very dark- grey colour.. Measurements: 126.55mm long, 111.32mm high, 7.53mm thick and 162.2g in weight.

A sherd of wheel thrown Roman black burnished ware 2 (BB2) vessel dating to the period c. AD 120 - c. AD 250. Description: The sherd represents part of the rim of a jar. It is made from a hard, sandy black fabric with a grey core with a finely burnished silky' upper surface. The inclusions are abundant very small-medium poorly mixed quartz inclusions and some black iron and mica set in a silty matrix. Clear internal striation clearly indicate wheel thrown technology use dint its' production. Measurements: 26.73mm long, 25.51mm high, 10.51mm thick and 7.66g in weight.

A worn wheel thrown ceramic rim sherd of Verulamium-Region White Ware dating late 1st to 2nd century AD. Description: The sherd is a rim sherd and irregularly shaped in plan. The fabric is well fired, hard and granular with slightly laminar texture. It has typical off-white colour with abundant well-sorted multi-coloured specks of quartz with sparse red iron in a clean matrix. The breaks are heavily worn. The rim is low, flat and rolled with concentric bands around the remaining body and shoulders. Measurements: 87.75mm long, 38.96mm high, 13.85mm thick and 45.67g in weight.

Description: The sherd consists of part of the rim and body in a paler orange-pink hard, fine fabrics with sandy texture and finely irregular fractured edges. The surfaces are burnished and remain smooth where not damaged. It is tempered with abundant fine quartz sand, moderate fine black and red iron ores and some fine mica.
