Roman copper alloy probable strigil, consisting of a short shaft terminating in a globular knop at the end of a 'leaf' shaped blade, bent at the centre so the bottom half is at a 90° angle to the rest of the object (whether intentional or not is uncertain). It measures 38.56mm in length and weighs 4.39g. The globular knop measures 6.62mm in diameter and has a long double-moulded collar beneath, 5.11mm and 3.90mm diameter. A circular scar to the top of the knop 1.13mm in diameter suggests a possible original loop-attachment. Shaft to knop is 19.56mm in length. The blade is a…

Incomplete Late Roman copper alloy openwork folding knife or razor handle, depicting a hound running along solid ground biting the rump of a hare in front. It is missing its iron blade and apparently part of the handle itself (the hound's lower back leg and 'solid ground' beneath dog on one side only). It measures 53.64x15.84x4.81mm and weighs 11.23g. The hound and hare are naturalistic enough, but rather crudely done. The hare has a large rounded snout, a moulded triangle either side of a head triangular in section (for ears) and a bump at the end of the rather thin body f…

Incomplete copper alloy Roman figurine, probably of Mercury. It is rather odd looking with stick-like legs and arms and a narrow head. Sitting horizontally atop the head is an oval hat 8.5x6mm, with two 1.5mm stumps (?wings) sticking out of the top. The head below is U-shaped and 5mm long (4mm wide and 5mm thick). Two crude eyeholes are barely visible either side of a long flat section running the length of the face, and presumably representing the nose. The neck is short and stumpy, being the same width as the head. Two arms extend to either side, one with a very square shoulder, th…
