A cast copper alloy Roman rectangular seal box lid, with enamelled detailing. The lid is rectangular and decorated with four rows of four square recessed cells which would once have contained enamel (now mostly missing). One of the colours seems to have been a red-brown, the other is indistinguishable (though one square seems to show blue?). The lid has three intact, undecorated sides. The fourth edge of the lid has no rim and instead contains a small central projection, part of the hinge mechanism. An incomplete copper alloy Roman flat enamelled disc brooch (AD c. 80 - c. 250). The brooch has an oval-shaped plate, but edges are worn and the enamelled design suggests that the brooch was originally circular. The design consists of a central circular cell, missing its enamel inlay, with a wide copper alloy border. Surrounding this is a wide circle of blue enamel with six raised copper alloy pellets arranged in a circle within the enamel. Two very similar brooches are depicted in Hattatt (1989, p.344, fig. 203, nos 1029 and 1030), indicating that this brooch was originally circular.…
