A complete Roman copper alloy finger ring with black glass intaglio. The bezel is widened and flattened; the shoulders are also relatively wide before tapering to a thin hoop around half way down the sides (min. W.: 2.8mm). There are some abrasions to the edges of the hoop and a recess formed through corrosion on the underside of the bezel. The bezel is very slightly raised in around the setting. The intaglio is bevelled externally leaving a flat oval central zone with design set in. The design (on the intaglio) is of a human figure, probably female, seated left and turned to the view…

ADVENTVI AVG FELICISSIMO reverse type depicting Severus on horseback going right, raising right hand. Minte of Rome. RIC IV..I, p.100; no.74. This coin's flan has not been trimmed to the border in places. It has also suffered some small chips.

The head was formed of cylindrical wings with a slot that is slightly off centre; one of the wings has been lost beyond the head. Retained in the extant wing is the remnant of the copper-alloy axis bar for the former hinged pin, viewable within the slot.
