An irregular incomplete cast lead alloy vessel repair (pot mend) of probable Roman date (50-400). In plan the repair is broadly oval in shape and irregular in cross section; originally it would have been H shaped but it has been snapped across the mid-point and only a small projecting nub survives. These types of mend were used during many different periods but this example has been found with other datable Roman finds
The vessel repair measures 24mm length, and is 20mm wide

An irregular cast lead alloy vessel repair (pot mend) of probable Roman (50-400) or medieval date (1200-1400). In plan the repair is irregular one face is oval whilst the opposing one is a irregular rectangle. The profile is an abraded H shaped cross section. A small sherd of the original vessel is present - it is a soft friable oxidised red coloured vessel with some shell-like tempering. From the thickness of the sherd and mend it is likely a repair from a fineware vessel. These types of mend were used during many different periods but this example has been found with other datable R…

Two sherds of mid grey coloured ceramic pottery - both are from the base of a vessel, Neither of the sherds conjoin and it is likely that the body sherd is from a different vessels All are a mid - dark grey colour . None are diagnostic and the form / shape cannot be identified. The best identification is a mid grey coloured sandy coarseware pottery of mid Roman date (AD 80 - 350)
Sherd 1: 39.5mm width, 41.7mm length, 9.8mm thick across the base and 8.4mm across the side wall - it weighs 19.38 grams

Rim sherd of a relatively thin walled coarseware pottery vessel. The sherd dates to the Roman period (50 - 410) and conforms mostly to the local 'Severn Valley' like wares. The fabric is relatively soft with a number of angular and sub-angular quartz, grit and ironstone inclusions. The fabric also contains considerable inclusions of mica / sand. The fabric colour is a uniform reduced mid grey colour. The diameter of the rim cannot be suggested due to the small size of the sherd. Likewise, he height or capacity of the vessel cannot be estimated. The form of the rim is everted.

Two rim sherds from similar wheel thrown ceramic vessels of Roman dating (2nd to 4th Centuries AD). The rim sherds consist of a fabric similar to that known as Dorset Black Burnished Ware, both probably originally came from a small shallow carrinated bowls or cup type vessels having stepped exterior surfaces and flat topped rims.
Sherd 1 measures: 61.7mm width and 24.7mm length, it is 23.1mm high and 9.1mm thick at the rim, 4.8mm tick across the body. It weighs: 13.12 grams. The exterior rim has a projected diameter of 11cm and represents 19% of the rim.

A sherd from the base of a wheel thrown Samian ceramic vessel / plate of Roman dating. The sherd is from the side of a shallow bowl and is heavily abraded. The reverse has an applied foot ring attached with a projected diameter of 12cm. The vessel has much worn oxidised fabric with a red slip. This fabric type is consistent with an imported fine ware from Gaul possibly La Grauf.
The form of the sherd is suggestive of a small plate similar to Dragondorf form 15 or 17 dating from the earlier period (c. AD 50-200).
The sherd is 43.5mm width and 28.8mm length, it is 17.3mm thick acro…

A single rim sherd of local Roman pottery - severn valley ware - the sherd is too small to be diagnostic although the earthenware fabric and form is much finer than the majority of similarly dated sherds. Local 'coarseware / Severn Valley like Wares' are wheel thrown ceramic vessels dating from the 2nd to 4th Centuries AD (100-400 AD). This example is likely to be from a storage jar

A rimsherd from a wheel thrown ceramic vessel of Roman date. The sherd has an oxidised fabric with a red applied slip. This fabric type is consistent with an imported fine ware from Gaul, known as Samian ware. This pottery type is typically dates from the 1st to 3rd Century AD. Subtle differences in the fabric can distinguish the origin of the pottery from South Gaul to Central Gaul or East Gaul. The sherd is suggestive of a small shallow bowl or cup / beaker similar to Dragendorff 33 (a small conical cup with a footstand). This cup type was first appeared during the reign of Tiberius…

An incomplete Roman copper-alloy looped handle escutcheon plate attachment for a vessel (c. AD 40-410). This escutcheon is cast being convex at the front and mostly concave at the rear. Viewed from the top it is curvilinear to accommodate the body of the copper-alloy vessel, to which it would have originally been soldered. The diameter of the vessel cannot be estimated it is slightly curved suggesting that the vessel was of significant (cauldron) size. The moulded design at the front is integral with the plate and was cast in one piece. The single loop at the top of the plate is offse…
