The rim sherds consist of a fabric similar to that known as Dorset Black Burnished Ware, both probably originally came from a small shallow carrinated bowls or cup type vessels having stepped exterior surfaces and flat topped rims. A sherd from the base of a wheel thrown Samian ceramic vessel / plate of Roman dating. The sherd is from the side of a shallow bowl and is heavily abraded. The reverse has an applied foot ring attached with a projected diameter of 12cm. The vessel has much worn oxidised fabric with a red slip. This fabric type is consistent with an imported fine ware from Gaul possibly La Grauf.
