An incomplete cast copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 5.c, Plate 50, flat wing ends type, Western Group) of Roman date (AD70-110). The wings are semi-cylindrical and the wing caps are perforated. The axis bar and spring are present being also formed of copper alloy - the spring is formed of eight turns and is fixed by an external loop through a raised and cast lug positioned at the centre of the head. A near complete and well preserved cast copper alloy knee brooch of later Roman date (200 - 400 AD). The head of the brooch has been bent - possibly deliberately prior to deposition. The upper edge of the brooch has a rectangular head plate - the reverse of which has two sub-circular projecting lugs which are pierced and hold a copper alloy axis bar and spring. The spring is formed from a length of copper alloy wire and turned six times to form the spring coil. Originally this spring would extend into a pin, however this is lost. An incomplete copper alloy Roman Trumpet brooch (variant) dating from c. AD 75 - 175. The bow of the brooch has an angular profile and an angular D shaped cross section. The bow tapers from a flared head to a broken edge above the mid-point. The central mouldings, lower bow, catchplate and foot are all lost. The head of the brooch is near-complete but eroded; it is oval in plan, and tapers into the bow.
