Cast copper alloy Roman military buckle / strap fitting of early 1st or 2nd century date (AD 50-150). The frame of the buckle is D shaped in plan and triangular / D shaped in cross section. The exterior of the frame is poorly cast or possibly heavily eroded. The frame can be divided into two parts the external bow and the vertical rear bar. The external bow is decorated with a shallow groove along its mid-point whilst the vertical bar has a central rectangular recess - to fit the cast pin to.
