Similar brooches can be seen in Richard Hattatt …

An incomplete fragment from the head and upper bow of a cast copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch dating from AD 75 - 175. The fragment of the brooch is distorted with the bow being further bent and distorted - probably deliberately in antiquity. The head of the brooch is oval in plan. A fragment of a copper alloy, Roman bow brooch probably of Polden Hill type (c.AD75-AD175) or possibly a Trumpet brooch (c.AD75-AD175). The fragment is sub oval in plan. Due to its fragmentary nature it is problematic to assign a firm classification. It is broken at the head, therefore the spring, bow, pin, foot and catch plate are missing. Iron staining indicates the former position of the spring on the largest flat surface of the fragment. The object has a dark green patina. The fragment measures 16.6 mm in length, 11 mm in width and weighs 4.8 grams.
