An incomplete Roman copper-alloy Hod Hill brooch (AD43-75). Hattatt Class B (with side lugs). The top edge is stepped and is perforated with a copper pin that passes through the perforation rather than the pin being rolled in situ. The pin has been flattened at the top end and tapers to a point which has been bent and distorted so it no longer extends to the catch plate. An incomplete cast copper alloy trumpet brooch dating to c. AD 75 to 175. The head of the brooch is missing the wings and in plan is a horizontal oval. The upper edge has a trace of an integral perforated lug (headloop). The oval head tapers to a broken edge, the bow, terminal, foot, pin and catch plate are missing. On the reverse of the bow head there are two vertical sub-oval integral lugs. Between these lugs are the traces of two coils. The brooch fragment is undecorated. A complete Roman copper-alloy crescent type "Aesica" brooch of first century AD date, possibly dating to circa AD43-100. The brooch comprises an upper curved bow and a lower flat bow. The spring-case has a width of 16.4mm and diameter of 3.5mm. The spring consists of seven coils / turns with the external chord which lays over the top of the spring, and then passes through a pierced hole in the spring lug which holds it in place.
