Roman: Base-sherd of an oxidised (orange) wheel thrown ceramic vessel, Severn Valley Ware, dates from the 2nd to 4th Centuries AD. The sherd probably originally came from a storage jar type vessel. The sherd measures 28.0mm length, 58.3mm width, the side wall is raised 12.0mm to the point of break. The base is 12.0mm thick and the sidewall is 4.9mm thick. It weighs 17.2 grams. A fragment from the head and bow of a cast copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch dating from AD 75 - 175. All that remains of the brooch is the head of the brooch which is circular in plan with an integral loop and the mid section of the bow. The foot terminates in a broken and rounded point. There is no evidence of the catch plate or foot of the brooch. The decoration on the bow consists of a swollen moulded D shaped in profile raised moulding which is decorated above and below by a single recessed groove on the front of the bow only. A cast copper alloy terret ring (harness ring / harness fitting) of Late Iron Age to Early Roman date circa BC 100 - AD 300. The terret comprises a sub-oval loop with an integrally cast sub-rectangular drop bar. The top of the terret hoop is the narrowest, this extends to the thicker opposing end of the hoop from which the lappet extends from either edge of the hoop. A copper alloy Roman sestertius of Faustina Junior (AD 147-175) as Diva under the reign of Marcus Aurelius, dating to AD 176-180 (Reece period 8). The coin is very fine and the obverse clearly shows the bust facing right, draped and veiled. The obverse inscription reads: DIVAE FAVSTIN.AVG. [MATR CASTROR]. The reverse shows a funeral pyre with Faustina draped on the summit. The reverse inscription reads [CONSECRATIO] S.C RIC III, p. 350, no. 1709.
