An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands) brooch, Mackreth 2011, 4.a-4.b. Plate 46, of Roman date (AD80-120). The wings are semi-cylindrical and the perforated wing / end caps are lost. The pin, axis bar, spring are also lost. In plan, the brooch is almost T-shaped, and D-shaped in cross section. The bow head is hump-like, and angular (comma shaped) in profile, with cylindral wings projecting from either side at the top which are perforated. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman gilded disc (oval) brooch with dark black glass inset, probably dating to (3rd to 4th CenturiesAD). The brooch is oval in plan with a large centrally set conical paste or black glass 'gem'. Around the gem the metalwork has been gilded.
