A copper alloy 'umbonate' style plate brooch of early Roman date (100-250 AD). The brooch has been eroded on the outer edges, probably recently in the ploughsoil and is no longer complete. The pin and catchplate are missing. The brooch is broadly circular in plan and 'D' shaped in profile. The brooch has a pronounced angular conical central boss which is surmounted by two incomplete sub-rectangular projections, one on the upper edge, and the other on the lower. A Polden Hill type Roman brooch dating to between c. AD 80 and 120: The wings are semi-cylindrical, terminating with incomplete wing caps.
