An incomplete copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands), c.f. Mackreth 2011, 4.d. Plate 47. The wings are semi-cylindrical terminating with perforated wing caps, both of which are complete. The wings are undecorated. At the junction of the wings and bow head there is an integral hook holding the chord in place. The axis bar and spring remains, with the spring having six incomplete coils. The pin is missing. A Roman silver denari of Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius (c. 130 BC - 63 BC) dating to 81 BC (Reece period 1) Reverse type depicting the jug and litus. Mint of Northern Italy. The flan on which the coin is struck coin measures 2.1 mm, this is perhaps thicker than regular examples. (RRC (1974:p.390) no. 374.2. The issue was produced by Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius, serving as a Sullan commander in the fight against Carrinas, Norbanus and Carbo. The reverse type may have a Sullan as well as a family significance (RRC 1974).

A fragment of a copper alloy, Roman Polden Hill type brooch dating to (c.AD75-AD175). The fragment consists of the bow and head of the brooch. The spring, pin, foot and catchplate are missing. The bow head is hump-like, and slightly angular (comma shaped) in profile. The bow tapers to a broken terminal that would have formed the foot and catchplate on the reverse. The object has a light to mid-green coloured patina. Bayley and Butcher (2004:160) comment that the distribution of Polden Hill brooches are concentrated in the West Midlands. A Roman copper alloy Trulla or pan handle dating to the second century AD. The pan handle consists of a single flat piece of copper alloy. The handle has a curved upper edge with a large semi-circular perforation. The curve of the perforation mirrors the curve of the upper edge of the handle.
