An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands) brooch, Mackreth 2011, 4.a-4.b. Plate 46, of Roman date (AD80-120). The wings are semi-cylindrical and the perforated wing / end caps are lost. The pin, axis bar, spring are also lost. A large depression is present on the reverse of the brooch; this is filled with a black coloured deposit. The bow head is hump-like, and slightly angular (comma shaped) in profile. A fragment from the head and bow of a cast copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch dating from AD 75 - 175. All that remains of the brooch is the head of the brooch which is circular in plan with an integral loop and the mid section of the bow. The foot terminates in a broken and rounded point. There is no evidence of the catch plate or foot of the brooch. The decoration on the bow consists of a swollen moulded D shaped in profile raised moulding which is decorated above and below by a single recessed groove on the front of the bow only.
