An incomplete copper-alloy artefact. This is probably a pendant of Roman date, c.2nd to 3rd century AD. See Nicolay 2007, pp.55-57 & 401, pl.90, nos.248.3 & 111.7, 'Round, oval and tear-shaped pendant type'. This artefact weighs 2.90g. The proximal end, assumed to have originally terminated with a complete suspension loop is missing due to an irregular break. An incomplete late Roman buckle, approximately half survives. Weight 4.04g, length 30.6mm, incomplete width 14.8mm, maximum thickness of frame 3.7mm, thickness over the hinge loop (diameter of hinge loop) 6.5mm. This buckle had an oval or D-shaped frame, forming a penannular loop, of oval cross-section. The break is worn and covered with the same mid-green patina that is present over the rest of the artefact. An incomplete copper-alloy nail cleaner of Roman date. Although nail cleaners were in use in Britain in the later Iron Age this style may possibly have a later Roman date, see example below. The remains of this artefact weigh 1.01g and have a maximum length of 25.3mm, with a break present at both ends. The incomplete head is turned through 90 degrees from the plane of the blade and accounts for 2.7mm of the incomplete length. An incomplete Roman copper-alloy fantail brooch, dating to c.AD 85-150. The head of the brooch has wings that give the artefact a maximum width of 15.7mm. These wings measure 5.7mm on the length axis and curve backwards forming a depth of 3.6mm. The curved wings would originally have contained a hinged pin, now missing. Some fantail brooches have a headloop. The example described here does not include an integral headloop.
