In plan the flake is a sub-oval shape, and in section is a sub-trapezoidal shape. The sides have vertical bnegative flake scars. The upper surface is a flat ventral surface. The lower surface has some negative scars. It is the side scars that suggest this was originally from a core.
The flint is a dark mottled grey colour.

In plan the axe is an elongated trapezoidal shape. In cross section it is bi-trapezoidal towards the blade. The butt is a sub-oval shape in section. The butt was broken in antiquity.
The axe is made from a blue fine grained stone made up of volcanic ash. Ordovician. Found in Wales and the Lake District. (Jon Radley, Warwickshire Museum).
The blade has been re-sharpened.
The surface has been polished.

The flake is quite substantial in depth, and therefore may have been created as a tool. In plan the flake is a sub-hexagonal shape, with one 'corner' being extended, perhaps as the tool element.
There is cortex remaining, otherwise the flint is now a mottled light grey colour.
