Copper alloy post-medieval hooked tag with rounded fastener, two hole loops with broken rounded ends. The tag would have had a common rectangular slot for attachment to a strap or ribbon and a flat openwork plate. The back of the tag is undecorated and flat. The object is probably a dress fastener or strap fitting. The length is 32mm, width 25mm and weight 8.89g. The tag is similar to NLM-7D3587 and SWYOR-37BA63.

This object is probably a cast lead token. The earlier tokens were made from pewter but the lead tokens are normally associated with the 17th – 18th centuries. The exact purpose has not been ascertained but it seems most likely that they were used by the working class as a form of low denomination currency as they were made at a time when small change was in short supply. The lead tokens seem to be mainly associated with rural areas. They were often used as a gap filler when when copper and brass tokens ceased to be produced in 1672. Landowners often found lead tokens a useful way to…

Lead disc probably an Alnage seal dating to the late Medieval to early Post-Medieval, 1500-1700. Alnage seal Alnage selas cloth seals and bale seals were widely used in Europe between the 13th and 19th centuries as a means of identification and as a component of regulation and quality control. Cloth seals appear to be the most thoroughly documented type of seal. Cloth seals were typically two disc seals joined by a connecting strip. These were intended to be folded around each side of a textile and stamped closed, in a manner similar to that in which coins were stamped. Bale seals s…

A silver seal most likely from the 16th-17th century and there is a record of arms related to the arms on it from the early 16th century. The matrix is not from Lancashire and it is curious how it turned up there. It is possible that it's deposition relates to the English Civil War 1642-1651 when men of Shropshire are known to have fought in Lancashire. The Kings army was originally based in Shrewsbury and then moved into Cheshire and then Lancashire. The Royalists recieved a defeat at Whalley which is not too far from the findspot. This is a very unusual coin that appears to be a forgery of a silver William and Mary possibly tin farthing. It is the right size for a tin farthing according to Spinks 345 but the portarait and reverse are all wrong. The double bust is facing left when it is always right and the reverse portrays a shield which is only portrayed on Guineas or half-gineas and sometimes the half-crown. Making this coin would not have been simple as it is well made and seems an awful lot of work to make an obvious forgery. All denominations appear to be double bust facing right. I wonder if it is a forie…
