A cast, copper alloy ball, probably a small cannonball dating from 1750-1850. The ball is sub-spherical and the surface is damaged with numerous score marks and pitting. This does not match any of the standard sizes known for late eighteenth or early 19th century cannonballs, the closest match being for a Serpentine, which fired balls of 1.5 inches in diameter. It is also unusual in being of copper alloy, but this has very little metal-on-metal friction, which made it invaluable for use in cannon where iron cannonballs would otherwise stick in the barrel. It could be a cannon ball bu…

A lead button or possible fabric weight of uncertain date, possibly Post Medieval, circa AD 1600 - 1800. The object is circular in form and has two closely spaced small holes off-centre suggesting that it was used as a button. The object is similar in size and weight to SWYOR-495286 discovered in Yorkshire which is suggested as possibly too large and heavy to fasten clothing, so may have been a hem weight for a large item such as curtains. The diameter is 19mm and the weight 12.38g.

Circular flat-cylindrical lead-alloy weight probably dating from the late medieval to post-medieval, c. AD1500-1800. The weight has a whole in it possibly meant for attachment. The weight may have originally been used for 8 ounces. Egan (2001) illustrates a similar example on page 312, Fig.232, No.981, which is dated to the 13th century. Bailey (1993) illustrates similar examples of home-made lead weights used by traders on page 29, and a free-standing weight with a raised edge on page 33, No.43. The diameter is 52mm and the weight 233.17g.

A post-Medieval copper-alloy clock key. The flat-sectioned bow comprises two loops: the larger, oval, loop is at the bottom, with a drop-shaped extension above. Both sides of the bow have been incised to create the impression of a pair of entwined serpents whose open mouths meet at the base. A double moulded collar marks the start of the oval-sectioned stem, which has a hollow tip. Two forward-facing prongs would have made up the bit. The length is 47mm, the width is 27mm. This handle is made of sheet copper-alloy and the frame is made up of an openwork decoration of moulded foliage that is leaves and possibly bods. The fob seal would have comprised an oval intaglio which is missing. It is lacking a separate loop at the at the apex, but the inside of the uppermost openwork decoration seems very worn and thus it was very likely that was where a chain would have connected the swivel fob seal with the wearer's pocket/waistcoat.
