The buckle has undulating moulding between the rounded knops on the narrow end of the frame and between larger lobed knops which flare out as winged extensions on either end of the wide end of the frame. Incomplete cast copper alloy trapezoidal shoe or knee buckle with a drilled frame for a separate iron spindle. The spindle survives within the iron oxide, but the pin is missing. The frame is symmetrical in plan with concave sides and is moulded at the front and plain at the back with bevelled inner edges. When viewed from the side, it has a curved profile, which may mean it was likely to have been a shoe buckle. Above each spindle hole there is a moulded lozenge, with a scroll on either side which terminate in a roundel and arch outwards. At either end of the buckle the frame curves …

Cast lead gaming counter with four punched, recessed squares, 3 mm squared, set into one face. The back of the disc has circular blisters where the punch has pushed through, as the disc is only 2-3 mm thick. Egan (2005) illustrates two similar lead discs from London on page 163, fig.160, nos.836-7. No.836 has two rows of four stamped squares, and is dated from c.1530-1570, and no.837 has five stamped voided circles and is dated from c.1675-1700. These are both slightly heavier than the disc here, and are listed as lay (pan) weights, but are considered too light for any obvious stan…
