Treasure Case 2022 T851 Description:  A complete silver gilded eye piece from a hook and eye fastener dating to the post medieval period (c.AD 1500-1700). The body of the piece is broadly heart shaped, with sewing loops either side of the point of the loop and a larger loop at the top of the heart. The large hoop is where the hook from the other part of the fastener would have previously been attached. The outer edges which form the shape of the heart consist of foliate branches.  The central design of the piece is reminiscent of an urn with a flat top and rounded body.…

An incomplete lead alloy harness mount of post-medieval date. Originally it would have been circular with a raised central boss and decorated around the outside with perhaps 12 smaller raised bosses - 2 of which survive. The central boss is damaged and may have been decorated. In the depression between the central and outer bosses there is a raised decoration of touching circles. On the reverse the surface is slightly concave and there is a remnant of what may have been the method of fixing this decorated lead item. A Post Medieval lead token or decoration. The token is circular with raised decoration on the obverse. On the obverse the decoration depicts a shield overlaid with a long cross. The top two quarters of the shield may have a letter in each whilst the bottom two quarters contain a pellet each. The piece is bound by a border of raised zig zag lines. The reverse is blank and flat suggesting that it could have been attached - maybe to leather. The item is slightly buckled probably as a result of damage by a plough.

A copper alloy purse bar dating from the late medieval to Post Medieval period, about AD 1450 - 1600. It is of Williams Class C2, having a short bar, and a shield shaped block. The bar is oval in section, with a recessed area in which the (missing) frame would articulate. The bar terminates with a globular knop at one end and missing the knop at the other end. The hands are mostly covered in opaque white enamel. Each hand projects from an elaborate lace-like ruffed cuff. A fragment of cast copper-alloy Post-Medieval spur frame, c. 17th century. The fragment survives as the terminal end of the right side of a probable rowel spur, snapped towards the rowel attachment end. Unlike medieval spurs, the terminal holes are further apart forming an oblique figure of eight. Moulded ridged lines run either side of the hole closest to the frame of the spur. A cast model of a swan. The model is roughly cast. The head is disfigured, but from the angle of the neck the head would have been facing downwards. The wings are good quality, with detail acting as 'feathers'. The base is broken and the model is hollow, which can be seen from the base which has a slit fown the centre. Medieval cast lead weight, both sides have no noticeable inscriptions, but one side does have a grooved pattern and the other face has two linear incisions, possibly intended to be numerals. On this side there are some grey markings around the edge. The object has a cream patina. The thickness of the disc has led to the suggestion that it is a weight, not a token.

A lead bag seal of likely post Medieval date. The object is sub-circular in plan and flat in section. One face of the seal is decorated with dots going round a quarter of the edge. In the middle there appears to have been an inscription of some kind, but this in now ineligible. The other side is blank. The colour is light brown, though darker in some places. Cloth and bag seals primarily date from the Medieval to Post Medieval period and highlight trade across North West Europe (Leahy & Lewis 2018, 280).

A cast copper alloy horse bridle bit of post-medieval date, (1700-1800) probably close to the later end of the dating than the earlier. The object is circular in plan and conical, rising in three softly defined rings to a circular boss. The rear of the object, which is concave, has the remains of two lugs, presumably for attachment. The object is reddish-brown in colour. A similar example can be found on the PAS database under NLM-C94F75.

An incomplete copper alloy S-shaped 'snake belt' fastener, dating to the Post-Medieval period, (c. AD 1575 -c.1800). This fastener is in the form of a curved snake forming two hooks. The fastener is decorated on one face with an animal head terminal at one end and with worn moulded scale-like decoration. The snake has raised and rounded pellets representing the eyes. The object expands in width from the head before narrowing as it curves into the tail where it terminates.
