A near-complete but worn tin-alloy farthing with a central copper-alloy plug struck for Charles II, dating c. 1684-1685. Spink 3395. The edges of the coin are worn, obscuring the majority of the inscription. Tin farthings were first issued in 1684 to help boost the tin industry, with the copper alloy plug intending to discourage forgery but it failed in its purpose (http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/farth.html).

A worn silver plated copper alloy half crown of Charles II (AD 1660-1685), a contemporary copy of a coin issued between AD 1660-1662 (hammered coinage). Even as a copy the coin is small for a halfcrown (at 32mm diameter rather than c. 34mm), however it is the right size of a milled halfcrown, issued after 1662. The features on the coin suggest that this is copying the earlier halfcrown (see Spink 2008 no. 3313 and 3321). c.f. North N2761.

A complete tin farthing of Charles II (AD 1660-1685), dating to AD 1684-1685. The tin farthing is complete although the copper alloy plug is mostly missing from the centre. The coin is in quite good condition however the inscription around the edge of the coin is largely unreadable. Tin farthings were first issued in 1684 to help boost the tin industry, with the copper alloy plug intending to discourage forgery but it failed in its purpose (http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/farth.html). Charles II died in February 1685 so coins of this date are quite rare. Spink (2011) No. 3395.

A complete but worn tin farthing of Charles II (AD 1660-1685), dating to AD 1684-1685. The tin farthing is complete with the copper alloy plug (although this appears white like lead) still in the centre. The coin is corroded and any date or inscription around the edge of the coin is unreadable, however both the obverse and reverse are clear enough to read the inscriptions. Tin farthings were first issued in 1684 to help boost the tin industry, with the copper alloy plug intending to discourage forgery but it failed in its purpose (http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/farth.html).
