Post Medieval trade token of William Swift of Worcester. Williamson No. 165, Dickenson No. 165-7. Trade tokens were issued between 1648 and 1672 at a time when there was little low denomination coinage being issued by the crown. As a result traders and business proprietors began issuing tokens as an alternate coinage with equivalent denominations of a farthing, half penny or penny. Post Medieval (late 16th to early 17th centuries) strap fitting, in the form of a hook. The copper alloy fitting has an inverted triangular body, with rounded edges and a wide 'V' along the upper edge. The body has a circular rivet hole. In the rivet hole there is the traces of an iron rivet. The lower tip of the triangular body is narrowed before forming an integral hook by being curled towards the reverse. Post Medieval (later 17th century) incomplete cast lead four part cloth seal. Two discs of a four-part seal remain, discs two and three, but the connecting ribbon is missing. Disc two has 'OF ENGLAND with a bust facing right. Disc three has a fleur-de-lis with 1 to left and ½ to the right. The seal is in fair condition and the surface has a buff patina. The largest disc measures 19.39mm long, 13.42mm wide, 1.57mm thick and weighs 1.23g. Cloth seals were in use between the 14th and 18th centuries (Egan, 1994) as a form of quality control.
