A black button made from glass, of probable Post medieval date, about AD 1500 - 1700. It is plano-convex in shape, more convex on the front than the reverse, and there is a chip missing from one side. The spiral marks on the back and, less obviously, on the front show that it was made by winding molten glass into a blob. In the centre of the back are two holes which would have held a metal attachment loop. The button measures 14.3mm diameter, 9.1mm thick and is 2.48g. The glass is pitted and opaque. SF6940 is a very similar button in pale yellow glass. The record notes that "Glass …

A blue glass intaglio, or more properly, a cameo, since the design is in relief. It dates from the late Post Medieval to Modern period. This decorative item was designed to be inserted into a ring or brooch or other personal ornament. The oval setting is made of bright blue translucent glass and has been made in a mould. This is evident from the concave reverse and the rounded edges to the design. It is decorated with a beetle, perhaps a scarab depicted from above sitting on a leaf. The background has fine horizontal lines across the field - again indicative of a fairly recent da…

An oval seal matrix made of light blue glass with a copper alloy frame. This matrix was probably set in a watch chain fob. The surviving copper alloy frame is only an oval loop round the edge of the setting and measures 19.6mm long and 18.3mm wide. Three stubs project from the back of the frame and a fourth is missing. These are all that remains of the handle of the matrix. The translucent pale blue glass setting is oval with a flat face and a bevelled edge. The reverse has eight faces which meet in a point like a pyramid. From the apex to the face of the setting is the thickest point …
