The mount is broadly flat with slight bevelling on its upper surface. It features two iron rivets, one towards the upper edge, the other just below the centre of the plate. Much of the lower rivet survives corroded in place. The mount has corroded to a red-brown colour overlain with patches of large light-green and off-white corrosion product. Comparable hooked mounts can be found illustrated in Margeson (…

A worn and corroded post-medieval cast copper-alloy uniface mount in the form of an acorn. On the upper face the acorn is moulded and the cup delineated from the nut by a transverse ridge flanked by grooves. The stalk bends to one side as with examples illustrated in Read (2001, 29, 37; refs. 331-334). The reverse features a pair of facing pointed lugs suggestive of a c. 17th-century date. On the obverse of this artefact it has a largely variable mid-green patina.

A complete cast copper-alloy strap-fitting of post-medieval date. The mount is symmetrical in form made up of a three sections arranged in a row: a small central oval body which contracts slightly at either end before expanding into broadly circular terminals. The upper surface is slightly convex with two transverse ridges at the junctions of the body and terminals. The lower surface is flat with two pointed spikes, missing their tips, projecting from behind the two transverse ridges. Similar mounts can be found illustrated in Read (2001, 36; fig. 21).

A corroded and bent cast copper-alloy post-medieval sword-belt hanger/mount. This strap-fitting consists of a mount with three suspension loops from which a trio of hooked plates would have hung; in turn, the scabbard straps would have been attached to these plates. The mount features foliate decoration on its visible face. Such fittings are rarely found complete, rather elements or broken examples are far more common. However, an illustration of another complete sword-belt fitting can be found in Read (2001, 43; ref. 373). Such fittings 'proliferate in the 16th and 17th centuries' (G…

A slightly corroded cast copper-alloy gilt post-medieval strap mount in the form of a moulded fleuret. The fleuret is nonafoil, with a slightly raised convex centre, moulded pellets at the end of each lobe, and possible decoration in the field obscured by corrosion. The lower surface features a pair of incomplete pointed lugs, one of which has been bent to one side (L.: c. 3.75mm), the other of which is vestigial. A comparable mount can be found illustrated in Read (2001, 33; ref. 270) date approximately to the 17th century AD. The mount has corroded to a mid-green colour with areas o…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy post-medieval convex mount, probably a harness mount. The mount is quatrefoil in design consisting of a central boss with protruding spokes with an openwork design. The boss is square in shape; from each side radiates a spoke connecting the boss to the outer design. The boss is delineated by incised lines. The spokes terminate in fleurs-de-lis that are conjoined; this makes for a heart-shaped openwork. The central element of each lis protrudes in a lobed knop. The radiating spokes and the outer design are trapezoidal in cross section; the lower surface …
