Description The small oval matrix, in silver, retains the rectangular stub of the now missing handle, which was square in cross-section, on the reverse. The matrix is engraved with a cartouche bearing arms: cross engrailed with ermine in quarters, and scallop shell at cross base. The cartouche has three scrolls, and is flanked by two tapering motifs (staffs?), below small cups (chalices?). The reported object is a small closed thimble made of silver sheet, with the separate crown soldered to the main body. It is complete, although damaged with horizontal, concentric bands of uniformly executed annulets on the external surface and the same annulet pattern on the crown, set in lines.
