Cast copper alloy fitting, possibly a Post Medieval handle from a piece of furniture or a Late Medieval buckle frame. C shaped with an expanded centre decorated with four transverse mouldings, two larger mouldings flanking two smaller. Either side of this are zones of fine, transverse grooves associated with which is what appears to be a 1.5mm long piece of silver wire. The decoration extends around the fitting. Its surviving end is expanded before narrowing again. The function of this object is uncertain and while its extended form can be paralleled on Late Medieval buckles (Egan and…

Copper alloy fitting of possible post Medieval date. The fragment consists of a metal plate, decorated, on both faces, with a palmette executed by cutting back the surface to leave a reserved design. While both faces are similar on one side the palmette leaves are rounded while on the other side they are triangular and rougher in execution. At the focus of the palmette is a 3mm diameter hole, countersunk on the better face. Above the palmette is a lys motif, which, on the poorer side, is negative: it is not reserved. Both ends of the plate are broken. This object is difficult to id…

Unidentified object, probably a dress hook of Read's Class D Type 5, copper alloy, cast or pressed to shape, Domes with a hollow underside the top of which is covered by a pattern of small raised bosses. These are now obscured but each may have originally been surrounded by a ring. On one side of the dome is a projection probably respresenting the remains of a pin. Scars on the other side of the dome may represent the attachment loop. Length 17.6mm, Diamter 13.0mm, Height 4.1mm, Thickness 2.0mm, Mass 1.51g

Unidentified object consisting of two pieces of copper alloy sheet one face of each bears incised decoration made up of circles surrounding a ring of smaller circles set around a similar circle. The two pieces are fragments but do not join. A short section of original edge survives on the larger fragment; this bears a projecting tag, strait sided with a pointed tip. The base of a similar tag may be present on another edge of this fragment. The backs of the pieces are plain. No dating evidence is present although a post Medieval date is likely. Lead fitting, originally cylindrical but now distorted, torn and crushed. The object has a diameter (crushed) of 62.5 x 45.7mm and was 105.7mm long. The metal appears to have been around 5mm thick and the fitting may have been made from rolled lead sheet. Its lower third has been perforated with two rows of cut holes, each around 7mm diameter. There are further holes through the end of the cylinder. Its top was open. While this object is difficult to identify and date it is likely that it was a filter fitted to a hose or pump riser and of comparatively recent date. Owing to the lack o…

Fragment of sheet copper alloy, two surviving original edges, one straight, one incurved, others broken. Through the plate are three conjoined 5.0mm diameter holes. Condition generally good. The thickness varies between 1.02 and 1.12mm suggesting that this is not modern rolled sheet metal but the fragment must be seen as both unidentifiable and undatable

Copper alloy bar, rectangular section 4.5 x 3.3mm, expanded at ends to form two fish tail shaped panels. Notches in the centres of these suggest that they may have once had holes through them. The centre of the bar is thickened to form a rectangular panel and the bar bears a number of transverse grooves. Both ornament and gilding are restricted to one face of the bar. Through the centre of the bar runs a fixed copper alloy pin 1.6mm diameter, now bent but with an original length of c. 40mm. This projects from both edges.
