A very small silver thimble or thimble crown (which has become separated from the collar) with irregular dimpling, this indicating a pre-1718 date of manufacture, by hand; machine manufacture of thimbles became common only in the late 17th century. It consists of a compressed hemispherical piece, the inside of which is smooth and with only slight scratches whilst the outer surface is marked with irregularly sized indentations in crude rings. These are present in a band around the central region but dissipate towards the apex, leaving the upper and a small area of the lower portion plai…

The raised areas of the object are light with lead corrosion products, whilst those that are more recessed are of a darker hue. A late medieval (AD 1540-1700) lead bird feeder, of similar style to BH-85F197 and LANCUM-901915 The object is a flared rim vessel of roughly 45 mm in height and 72 mm in absolute width, though this is probably not an accurate reflection of its original proportions as it is now compressed and distorted. A flattened back and two possible suspension points may indicate it was attached to a flat surface above the bottom of the bird enclosure, though the base is also flat enough for it to have been freestanding. Egan (2005) notes that similar objects, excavated in London, were in th…

Half of a cast copper-alloy buckle, similar to examples given on pg. 82 of Whitehead (2003), specifically number 511. Only half of the buckle survives, one of the loops being lost. A lead or lead-alloy button probably of post-medieval date. The surface is coated in lead corrosion products and is slightly friable to the touch; the object in general appears in poor condition and pitted. This no has a sizeable gouge out of it, removing two of the arms. The back of the object bears the two nub-like remains of the former attachment ring.
