An incomplete Post-Medieval lead loth seal, probably dating to AD 1500-1800. Disc 1 of a 2-, 3- or 4-part seal, with an unclear design. An unclear inscription reads: [...]LE[...]. The impression of a plain-weave cloth can be seen on the reverse of the disc, as well as a partial and similarly unclear design on the integral rivet. The impression of the weave is too ill-defined to allow for a reliable estimate of threads per inch. Dimensions: length 25.5mm; width 26.1mm; thickness 3.1mm; weight 6.98g.

Disc 1 is stamped with the intials CR ligated with three rosettes above and below within a circular outer border. Disc 2 is plain. The ligated initials CR most likely refer to Charles I, and although late for a 2-part alnage seal Egan (1992: 3) suggests that they continued in use until the mid-17th centur…

A Post Medieval lead alloy cloth seal, probably dating to c. AD 1600-1800. Two lead alloy discs pressed together with one connecting strip surviving, the vestigial remains of a second set of connecting strips as well as the lack of a rivet on either disc suggesting that it was originally a 4-disc seal. One face is stamped in low relief with a depiction of an eagle or other bird of prey standing left with wings outstretched, stood on a trasverse line of pellets. This is within a low largely illegible inscription: [...(IN?)...]WA[...]ON (pellet). On the reverse, again in low relief is t…
