Lead weight of probable medieval to post medieval date. Egg-shaped, with a central longitudinal perforation. Classic roman steelyards tend to be biconical with iron or copper-alloy suspension loops, often with a loop on the top and bottom. This steelyard doesn't quite fit the known types of roman steelyards nor the typical encased medieval ones. Lead examples from the Post-Medieval date are poorly understood and difficult to date out of context. Weight: 505g / 7793.34 grains / 17.81oz / 1.11lb avoirdupois / 1.35lb troy.
