An iron and gunpowder hand grenade or 'firebomb' dating to the 18th or 19th century, probably Napoleonic. Description: The grenade is formed from two half spheres of cast iron with a cylindrical section attached to the upper hemisphere. The upper cylindrical element has part of the original fuse still attached. Iron corrosion has corroded over most of the upper cylindrical section and the fuse and bloomed outwards on one side possbily due to corrosion or partial detonation. A near complete, cast iron, small cannon ball of the Post Medieval period, dating from c. AD 1550 - c.AD 1700. Description: The ball is spherical in plan and is broadly circular in section. There appears to be no casting seam present on the surface of the ball, however there is evidence of heavy iron corrosion in the form extensive irregularpitting across its surface. Precise diameter of the ball is unknown due to the unknown level of the iron corrosion. An incomplete muzzle loading Damask muzzle loading rifle or shotgun, dating to the 19th century. Description: The gun survives only as the barrel and part of the trigger mechanism. The barrel is polygonal and damask in form, meaning it has been formed by strips of steel and iron around a mandrel leaning to a 'Damascus Steel' style pattern. There is a a tip at the end of the barrel which may be the front sight. The bottom of the barrel also has a number of possible lugs which may have helped attach it to a wooden body or a fitting for a ramrod. The trigger end is clealry discoloured…

A fragment of undated Iron slag. The fragment is irregularly shaped with a slightly patch of vitreous green material at one end. The majority of the slag is a light rusty orangey brown indicative of oxided iron. Measurements: 30.56mm long, 30.29mm wide, 16.73mm thicka and 15.87g in weight.
