A complete silver post medieval bodkin dating from the 17th century. The bodkin has been bent in two places at almost 90 degrees, both close to the (sharp) point. In shape it has a rounded terminal end 4.2mm wide and narrows to point, 0.6mm wide. The bodkin is hexagonal in cross section and has a longitudinal rectangular slot and a circular hole at the terminal end. There is no decoration on the bodkin. The silver has patinated to a green brown colour, the original silver colour showing up in patches. The bodkin measures 98.1mm in length, 4.2mm in width and is 1.7mm thick. The rect…

Two copper alloy studs or hob nails, found close together. The heads are conical in shape and c.4mm long, being slightly concave to the underside from where the square-sectioned shank extends. All have smooth, shiny patinas of mid to light green in colour. 1) 8.7mm diameter head, 12.5mm length, 1.03g weight 2) 9.6mm diameter head, 10.2mm length (the shank is curved). 1.06g weight Usually made of iron, hob nails of similar form often date to the Roman or post-medieval period. These two studs were found close to three others - see record HAMP-68F821.

A Late Medieval/ Early Post-Medieval Venetian silver soldino of Doge Leonardo Loredan (1501-1521). It is worn and has a die axis of 8. On the reverse to the left of the figure there is an 'X' scratched onto the coin. During the 15th and 16th centuries the English economy experienced a serious shortage of English-struck halfpennies. In order to fill this gap people began using foreign coinage such as the soldino, meaning 'little shilling', which entered into English currency through Venetian traders.

An incomplete post-medieval (c.1500-1800) iron Jew's harp missing the tongue and part of one of the prong-like arms (old break). The harp consists of a rounded C-shaped end which extends to two prongs, which would have rested in the mouth. There is a groove on the centre of the rounded end where the tongue would have attached. It is lozenge shaped in cross section. The iron of the harp is corroded, and is a dark orangey brown colour. The harp measures 60.8mm in length, 31.6mm in width, and is 7.3mm at maximum thickness. The prongs measure 36.2mm and 20.8mm in length. The harp weighs 19.55g.

A post medieval apparently uniface lead alloy token of Powell Type 3, dating from 1550 to 1800 AD. One side is decorated with eight equidistant arms radiating from the centre, creating a cartwheel pattern. The token has been damaged and has a fold in the centre. The reverse is probably undecorated. The token is an irregular circular shape with uneven edges. It is a white-grey colour. The token measures 24.4mm in length, 21.7mm in width, 3.1mm in thickness and weighs 7.69g.

A copper alloy handle from a post-medieval object, probably a saucer-type candle-holder. The object is circular in shape with three roughly equidistant mouldings to the outside surface. Two of these are pointed triangular (in side view) projections, one of which has a worn break at its point. The other is a flat sub-oval or 'shield' shaped plate. Patches of now-yellow corrosion on the surface are probably decayed enamel or paint. Otherwise the four faces are very worn. The edges of each face are slightly raised forming a cross shape. The reverse has an integral rectangular shank with circular piercing 3.2mm in diameter at the furthest end. The button is 13.6mm long, the head measuring 9.7x8.9x4.3mm, and it weighs 1.91g.

An incomplete cast copper alloy probably Post Medieval buckle, c. 1550-1650. The frame has a slightly thicker outer edge and incised decoration, missing its pin. Overall the buckle measures 34mm long, 28.21mm wide and 2.23mm thick. The internal measurement of a loop is 21.07mm long and 9.64mm wide. The frame is D shaped in cross section and has bevelled edges. On both loops the outer edges there are three traverse grooves where the pin would have sat. The buckle is similar in style and decoration to one illustrated in Whitehead 2001 (p. 54, no. 302).

An incomplete copper-alloy post-medieval (1500-1700) buckle plate, consisting of the plate and incomplete arms only. The plate is sheet copper-alloy and triangular in shape with a central piercing (1.8mm diameter) for the missing pin. The two projecting arms extend from one edge and would have originally curled around the bar of the (missing) buckle frame and probably extended into a missing backplate. An incomplete post-medieval (1550-1650) copper alloy double-oval buckle frame, missing one of its loops. Iron staining on the strap bar suggests that the pin, which is now missing, was made of iron. The bar extends beyond the edges of the frame in pointed lobes. All original patina is missing but traces of diagonal grooves are apparent on the outside edge of the frame. It measures 26.5x19.2x1.9mm and weighs 3.79g.

An early post-medieval (c.1500-1700) copper alloy double oval buckle frame, measuring 23.09 x 17.45mmand weighing 2.82g. The internal measurements of the loops are c. 11.52 x 6.90mm. The loops have angled outside edges with a transverse notch for the pin at the centre. The narrowed central bar (rounded in cross-section) extends beyond the frame with a moulded rib at either end.

An incomplete and damaged post-medieval lead alloy (possibly pewter) spoon, consisting of the (incomplete) oval spoon bowl and a stump of the stem only. It measures 75.46x44.35x1.13mm and weighs 18.83g. The bowl is missing part of its edge and has a patch of metal degradation to the reverse, visible as a crazed and flaking patch, possibly the result of contact with fire. It weighs 3.30g. The loops are slightly angled on their outside edges, and are decorated to the top with diagonal and transverse grooves, although much of the decoration is lost due to wear and loss of patination.

A copper alloy thimble of closed construction, dating from the early Post Medieval period (c.1500-1700). The crown is domed and the walls below flare to the open end. A spiral of drilled circular pits start at the centre of the crown and continue around the walls to the base. The walls of the thimble are very thin (0.55mm thick) and show cracking around the base of walls and just below the crown.
