Fragment of Post Medieval a cast copper alloy openwork bridle boss. The fragment consists of part of the outer rim of the boss including part of one attchment hole and the attached sections of three of the central spokes. The outer rim is moulded with foliate decoration and possibly an oval head with wind or tendrils coming from the mouth. The outer edge is shaped around this decoration. At one end is an incomplete circular attachment hole, the break has happened across this hole. All the breaks are old and worn. Post Medieval gold mourning finger ring, dating to AD 1667. The ring has a D shaped cross section with a flat inner side. On the outer side is engraved a skull facing left, the eyes, nose hole, upper jaw and back of the skull are all indicated, the upper part of the head and are lower jaw not shown as they would be above and below the line of the band. On the inner side is inscribed .H.S. obiit 17 Aprill 67 followed by the makers mark of an S within a square. H.S. being the initials of the deceased who died on 17th april 1667. It is 18.4mm in diameter, 1.5mm thick and 3.07 grams. …

Rectangular piece of copper alloy sheet with six regularly spaced rectangular slots around the edge. One slot, in a corner, still contains a copper alloy sheet rivet. It is 57.0mm by 30.2mm by 1.8mm and weighs 6.35 grams. This piece is a vessel repair, probably from a copper alloy vessel. The use of sheet rivets suggest a Medieval to Post Medieval date, c.1450-1700 AD. See SUR-F333C2 and SUSS-881300 on this database for similar repairs still attached to parts of a vessel.

A sheet metal handle socket from a skimmer with part of the skimmer bowl, used for skimming fat and removing items from cauldrons, attached. The socket is constructed from a U shaped piece of sheet metal which has been riveted to the skimmer plate. The sheet is raised in the centre forming a tapering convex semi-circular section, now squashed, to accomodate a pointed wooden handle. This raised section is flanked by a row of four rolled sheet rivets on each side, one rivet is now missing leaving a circular hole. Post Medieval cast copper alloy harness fitting of 18th to 19th century date. The piece consists of a flat oval plate with lobed expansions at each end. The ends of the lobed expansions are thinned, probably to fit between two straps and pierced with a circular hole for attachment. The main plate has a raised outer edge containing a recessed oval panel within which are three concentric raised oval lines. In parts of the recessed areas is the remains of a green-blue substance, possibly enamel or corrosion. It is 50.8mm long, 17.6mm wide and 4.65mm thick; it weighs 14.63 grams.

About two fifths of a cast iron cannon ball. The majority of the cannonball is lost to an old break. This break may have happened after deposiiton due to rusting and fracturing of the iron. the piece now weighs 1118 grams suggesting an original weight of c.2,700 grams, 6 lbs. A cannon ball of this size and shape would have been typical for amunition for a saker cannon. The saker is a medium sized cannon developed during the early 16th century AD. The button has a flat back and front with a icopper alloy loop soldered in the cnetre of the reverse. Toggle end of a Post Medieval two-part toggle clasp. Only the circular toggle disk and part of the attachment plate survives, the rest is lost to an old break. The toggle disk is 10.5mm in diameter and sits on top of an arm that projects at one end of the plate. The remaining plate bifucates with a pair of projecting knops to each side and part of a rivet hole in the centre. It would have originally had three pairs of projecting knops from a central stem, echoing the molded foliate design on the front, and a second rivet hole at the other end.
