On the front, near the junction with the handle is a makers mark in the form of a pelleted outer circle around a possible rose or crown. Small group of four coins all found together. Either deliberately concealed or lost together as a 'purse drop'. The coins (listed in detail below) are: one copper and one tin farthing of Charles II, and two tin farthings of James II. It is notable that only farthings were found. It has been suggested (B Cook pers. comm) that people may have carried their small change separately from higher value coinage in the Medieval and Post Medieval and this find might provide further evidence for that suggestion. Coin 1: Copper alloy farthing of Charles II dating from 1672 to 1679. Obverse: Cu

An incomplete cast lead-tin alloy (pewter) spoon dating to the mid-17th century. The fragment comprises part of the bowl and the beginning of the stem, the rest has been lost along with the knop. Post Medieval cast lead-tin alloy (pewter) circular double faced token of Powell type 2 / 21 (c. AD 1500-1800). The token is broken with c.40% missing and the edges laminated, suggesting a high tin content which also fits with the low weight of the piece.. On one face is a raised design, slightly unclear but probably the initials HP or HB retrograde. On the other is a raised design of a four spoked wheel, four straight lines radiate out from a central ring and dot hub to meet a circular rim all within an outer plain line border. There is no evidence of small projections on the outside…
