Post Medieval composite sheet copper-alloy button. The front and back are made of two pieces of copper alloy sheet soldered together, the separate copper alloy wire shank is missing. The front is convex with a central raised boss an an incised line around the edge. The back is now concave but parallels and the off centred form of the indent suggest it was originally convex and has been damaged. There is an irregular hole with spayed edge in the centre where the shank has been removed flanked by rectangular blow holes. To one side are stamped the initials TC or TG, probably a makers ma…

Post medieval cast copper alloy stud chape from a shoe buckle. The chape has two cylindrical tubes at one end with the remains of a tube from the pin between them, around these is the rusted remains of the seperate iron spindle which would have gone through the tubes and into the buckle frame at either side. The body of the chape is flat and narrows immediately after the tubes before curving slightly out and then inwards to a narrower rectangular projection at the end opposite the tubes. This now ends in an old break but would have has a stud to attach to the leather shoe. The chape i…

Fragment of a cast copper alloy skillet handle. The fragment tapers in width and thickness along its length and is trapezoid in plan with a wider upper surface, bevelled sides and flat back. The front has moulded geometric decoration of raised lines between recessed areas forming a row of squares containing four pointed ovals arranged in a saltire, like a quatrefoil; one complete square and sections of two others survive. Between two of the squares is a raised band with diagonal incisions making a rope effect and between the other two may be a row of pellets although this is unclear. …

Post medieval cast lead alloy musket ball, 17.0mm in diameter and 26.31 grams in weight. There are faint traces of a casting seam and several dents and flattened areas, possibly from firing of post deposition damage. Lead bullets such as these were used from c1550 - 1850, most of them are likely to date from the 17th - 18th century as post-1800 most shot was made in shot towers rather than cast.

Cast copper alloy toy cannon of probable 18th-century date, with part of the gun carriage attached. The cascable (closed end) of the cannon is domed and there is a pronounced base ring. The small vent hole, blocked with mud, is half way between the base ring and first reinforce ring. The second reinforce ring has roughly semicircular expansions to each side, on the muzzle side of the ring, from which project the short trunnions. The trunnions have corroded, pointed ends and still go through the carriage, attaching the two together. The total width of the cannon across the trunnions…
