Description:  Post-medieval silver thimble formed of a tapering cylinder, squashed and incomplete, and a separate missing domed top. The sides have a plain band top and bottom, the lower band wider and with an inscription. The central part is decorated with regular rows of indented squares with a raised grid between them creating a 'waffle' pattern. Cutting across this pattern is a pair of lines formed of a plain line flanked by incised lines. Treasure case 2016 T832: Disclaimed, returned to finder Description: Post Medieval silver thimble formed of a domed top soldered onto a slightly tapering cylinder. The top is decorated with two recessed rings encircling an unrecessed crown enclosed by a recessed outer border with raised foliate decoration. The sides have a plain band top and bottom. The central part is decorated with regular rows of indented squares with a raised grid between them creating a 'waffle' pattern. Copper alloy open type thimble or 'sewing ring' of late Medieval or early Post Medieval date. The sides are splayed and the base is wider than the top. It is now squashed to an oval shape, base 27.8 by 11.6mm externally, top 24.4 by 10.3mm. The ring has fairly regularly spaced stamped oval pits arranged in four irregular rows around the sides, possibly in a spiral. There is no evidence of a makers mark but it is badly corroded. There are several indents around the base which appear to be damage although one nead a thinner end is more regular and may be a deliberate feature of manufact…
