Post Medieval silver twopence (halfgroat) of the Commonwealth (1649-1660), minted at London, AD 1649-1660, North (1991:206) no. 2728. The coin has been bent in two places to give it an S-shaped profile. It has also been pierced twice, at 12 and 5 on the obverse. The piercings are circular and half way between the edge and centre. The burrs around the edge and distortion suggest the upper hole has been pierced from the back and the lower from the front, possibly suggesting they were done together after the coin was folded. there is a small tear between the lower hole and the edge. …

The coin is pierced with a square (nail) hole near the edge at 10 o'clock on the obverse and 8 o'clock on the reverse. It was pierced from the obverse. It is also bent and may have been bent in the s-shape (one edge bent forward and the opposite edge bent back). This S-shaped bend is common on coins of this period and often interpreted as making the coin a 'love token'.
